A Bunch of Royal Rumble 2015 Predictions and News Because Why Not
Before we get into this, I want to just say possible #spoileralert to everything reported, because the last thing I want to do is hit you with a grip of news bits that could potentially fuck up your fun, assuming you love Raw and don't think ahead about these kinds of things like the rest of us obsessed Internets. So yeah, Royal Rumble 2015 spoilers, news, and predictions coming.... NOW!
First off, The Rock is in Philadelphia... you know, the site of this year's Royal Rumble (shouts out to my Central Jersey fam who are making the trip out there). Word is Rock has been working on his upcoming HBO series Ballers, as well as on a promo run for his TNT show Wake Up Call; now do I think The Rock will be wrestling? I doubt it. It'd be a GREAT surprise, but I think it might be more of how he came out and berated Rusev on Raw last year; we'll get a promo, some laughs, and maybe a smack upside the head. Maybe some Mania build-up, assuming he's actually going to be wrestling this year...
From the talk I've seen on the 'Net, the following names are pretty much surprise shoe-ins for competing in the Rumble this year: Randy Orton, Bo Dallas, Rob Van Dam, Diamond Dallas Page, Team 3D, Sami Zayn, and Kevin Owens. Some of these make 100% sense: Orton and Bo Dallas had been injured for a bit and are due to return. I'd imagine the both of them getting major pops if they actually hit. RVD's rumored to have signed another short contract with WWE (although nothing has been confirmed), and being that the Rumble's taking place in Philly, it'd make sense for him to re-debut tonight to get the crowd hype. Same with Team 3D, who have been rumored to have signed some kind of contract with the WWE. Why DDP is set to make a surprise entry is anybody's guess... there's no real WCW hype going on right now, and DDP's WWE run was kind of a let-down. He'll get a pop, but who knows how long he'd be in the ring for. Sami and Kevin being entered would be dope, especially because the NXT crowd mirrors the ECW crowd, and they both will be fan favorites if they're entered. Neither would win, I'd imagine, but that happening could sow seeds for their eventual main roster push, ala Rusev's 2014 Rumble debut.
In terms of guys I don't imagine will be entering are Chris Jericho (who has been on a strictly-house show diet but not doing actual TV/PPV) and Sheamus, who's been injured since some time last fall, hasn't been cleared for the Rumble. Or, at least we've not heard anything regarding him returning tonight.
Is that everyone? If not, I'll update, but let's run through tonight's matches and get some predictions going.
WWE World Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar vs. John Cena vs. Seth Rollins (Triple Threat Match): My pick? I'm going to go with Lesnar. I don't see Cena grabbing the gold any time soon, especially with the rumors of who'll end up doing the damn thing at Mania time. No need for Cena to hold a title, and other heads need to be elevated. I'm also not sure if they want to end the debut PPV of 2015 with Rollins cashing in his MITB briefcase tonight... if it were me, I'd be saving that for a PPV down the line.
The actual Royal Rumble Match: I'm still of the mind that 2015 is Roman Reigns' year, and WWE writing isn't putting him in a bad way. He was one of the biggest stars at this weekend's WWE Live show in Trenton, and I feel like he'll use his Rumble win to battle Lesnar for the title at Mania. Just how I see it. If not him, it'd better be Daniel Bryan, although I'm then not sure what happens at Mania.
WWE Tag Team Champions The Usos vs. The Miz & Damien Mizdow: This'll be one of the more fun matches of the evening. I see The Usos retaining, just because they're the best team in the WWE (not discounting Cesaro and Kidd, obvs).
Paige & Natalya vs. The Bella Twins: I saw Paige and Natty do good together in Trenton, and I heard Nikki's nursing an injury. I'm figuring the Bellas win via some kind of trickery.
The New Day vs. Cesaro, Tyson Kidd & Adam Rose — Royal Rumble Kickoff Match: Who cares? But because this is Black Rasslin', I have to go with the New Day. NEW DAAAAY! Ugh.
The New Age Outlaws vs. The Ascension: My thought is the New Age Outlaws beat The Ascension and we can be done with this bullshit old tag team fuckery stuff for a bit. The Ascension is in dire need of a retooling, and a loss can stoke the fire if they get away from this shit gimmick.
That's me, though. What do you guys think? Hit me on Twitter so we can chop up our thoughts before tonight's PPV!
