Bring Back The Jobber

Do you guys remember the '80s? Every Saturday morning, you'd see "jobbers", or enhancement talent, getting the holy shit kicked out of them by all of the top stars. You got to see quality matches, understand what they superstar could do, and with run-ins and such, the beginnings of feuds. It's not like that at all - which means you get Cena vs. Orton week-in, week-out. Rob Van Dam just had an interview where he asked for the return of the jobber:

RVD's point was that WWE and TNA need to make their stars larger-than-life and build to match-ups between big stars. Also, TV matches wouldn't need to a "political finish" for wrestlers to save face.

"Bring back the day of the jobber. When I was a fan, when I was younger, wrestlers were larger than life because I would watch them totally annihilate some local scrub, some guy that was in the ring, I didn't know who the jobber was. ... That to me was how you build the wrestler, and when I found out two of these superstars would be battling each other, whether it was near me at a live show or when it was on Saturday Night's Main Event, that was huge and it drew great interest and enthusiasm because I got to see these two big wrestlers who I've seen just destroy everybody actually face each other," RVD said in an interview with

RVD said the Monday Night Wars changed the formula to present PPV main event-caliber matches on TV and he would like to see WWE and TNA go back to the previous formula of making star vs. star matches a bigger deal when they actually do occur.

"Ever since Monday Night Wars, every single match from the bottom to the top of the card seems like it has to be main-event quality -- superstar vs. superstar, superstar vs. superstar -- and then you gotta find a political way to go into the finish, you know, to try to deck one guy while doing what you want with the other. It's a bunch of bulls--- I think."

I'm all for it. Bring back the jobber.

Jericho & Helms Arrested For Public Intoxication

Via TMZ:

WWE wrestler Chris Jericho was arrested at a gas station in Kentucky early Wednesday morning after cops say he and a fellow wrestler were both "extremely intoxicated" in public.

39-year-old Jericho was taken into custody in Kenton County around 5 AM for "alcohol intoxication in a public place."

Jericho -- who was arrested along with fellow wrestler Greg "Hurricane" Helms -- was forced to smile for cop cam -- and TMZ obtained the mug shots.

Jericho and Helms were released on $120 bond -- each ... no that's not a typo.

This can't be a good look so close to the Rumble. Vince won't fuck up rumored storylines of Jericho and Edge going in for 'Mania (I hope), but Hurricane might be in a word of trouble.

Or Vinny Mac might not give a shit. We'll see.

EDIT More details, via TMZ:

WWE wrestler Greg "Hurricane" Helms allegedly smacked several people -- including a woman -- before he and Chris Jericho were arrested at a Kentucky gas station yesterday, law enforcement sources tell TMZ.

We're told several people were in a taxi cab with Helms and Jericho when things allegedly got violent around 4 AM yesterday.

Cops say they spoke to several members of the group who told them Helms struck three people -- including Jericho, a man named Gary Kelley and a female passenger named Ashley Storer.

Witnesses told cops Helms ran from the scene right after the violent incident but returned to the gas station soon after, where he -- along with Jericho -- was arrested for being drunk in public.

Cops say Helms was not arrested for the alleged attack because the alleged victims have not pressed charges -- a requirement for an arrest in Kentucky if the police do not witness the attack.

Ashley told cops she did not want to file charges against Helms -- but Kelley told police he's mulling it over and may go after the wrestler.

Well damn. I wonder if he was playfighting/smacking or really hauling off...

SMH.

EDIT Wait, Matt Hardy was there too?

WWE star Matt Hardy was among a group of people involved in an early morning incident that led to the arrests of Chris Jericho and Greg "Hurricane" Helms, this according to law enforcement sources.

Witnesses told cops Hardy was in a taxi with Jericho, Helms and several others Wednesday morning -- when Helms allegedly struck three people ... including one female.

Witnesses say Hardy took off on foot -- just like Helms allegedly did -- when the cab driver pulled over at a Kentucky gas station and called 911.

We're told Helms came back to the scene and was arrested -- but Hardy was gone for good. Cops are not pursuing any sort of action against Hardy.

As we first reported, the female passenger decided not to file charges against Helms over the alleged attack. Helms and Jericho were arrested for "alcohol intoxication in a public place."

So Hurricane flew away, Matt Hardy 2.0 is moving up a version and was The Flash, just leaving Jericho? Was he passed out or some shit?

Friday Update Ashley Storer, the woman in this situation, says her getting struck was a result of "playfighting" (as I alluded to earlier - God I'm good). Anyways, Randy Orton was also asked about this situation:

Buy or Sell: The Miz

I completely buy. The Miz is Coming of Age like Jay and Bleek.. I believe that The Miz will be the next big star in the WWE. He sold me on this promo he did a couple of weeks ago.. His JBL impersonation was right on lol..

Buy or Sell:Drew McIntyre

I know Vinny Mac co-signed the homie but I will have to sell.. Nothing about him stands out to me.. They need to give John Morrison the Intercontinental belt back. Check out his FCW championship match against current WWE Champion Sheamus..

Booker T To Return At Rumble?

That's the rumor. I heard their talks ceased not too long ago, so don't be surprised if this doesn't go down, but I'd be happy if it did!

EDIT Imagine if Booker T was in TNA right now...

EDIT Looks like Booker T was on the Monday Night Mayhem show; sounds to me like he'd like to be at TNA if he had a bigger role - even mentioned that the WWE schedule wasn't what he was trying to do. Read excerpts and download the full show via No DQ.

Jeff Hardy Indicted By Grand Jury

I guess this taints word that he signed with TNA:

Jeff Hardy's drug arrest went before the Grand Jury yesterday in Moore County, North Carolina. The Grand Jury found that there was enough evidence to indict Hardy, and the case will now move to superior court. Hardy's case is expected to be set on the docket within the next week.

Hardy was originally set for a probable cause hearing on January 27th for his September 2009 drug charges. The hearing would have determined whether there was enough evidence regarding the arrest to go on the Grand Jury. The hearing is not required, and it appears as if prosecutors have opted to move the case along through the Grand Jury.

Hardy's was arrested for the following charges on 9.11.09:

*Felony possession of cocaine.
*Felony drug trafficking of opium
*Felony possession with intent to redistribute a Schedule III drug (two counts).
*Maintaining a dwelling for drug use and/or distribution.
*Possession of drug paraphernalia. (misdemeanor)

As we all know, Jeff Hardy made his return to pro wrestling last night for TNA.
In other TNA news, rumor has it that the six-sided ring is GONE! We'll see, though.

Hulk Hogan - CHANGE T-Shirt

What's sad is they're serious. Via the TNA Shop.

The Morning After

Some of my thoughts on last night's "Monday Night War" 2010; first, TNA:

  • Val Venis? The Nasty Boys? Scott Hall? Orlando fucking Jordan!??! This is change? This is the sign of dominance?
  • Why did last night's TNA feel like an episode of WCW Thunder? "OMG, who's in the limo!?" "OMG, he pulled out a baton!" "OMG, Hall and X-Pac are beating up Mick Foley!"
  • Wasn't TNA just hyping up their roster of new talent, yet they gave their actual stars less TV time than they gave for Knobbs trying to get backstage, or Jeff Hardy sitting on cages, or Flair standing on the ramp.
  • Why did they taint the excellence of the Angle/Styles match with that goon-filled beatdown at the end?

Ugh, crap. Now, onto WWE:

  • I'm such a fan of Bret Hart, but he did look mad old. Almost felt bad for him. And where were The Hart Dynasty?
  • Stu Hart to the Hall of Fame - wonder if Bret brokered that deal to help push him back onto WWE TV. What about Owen, though?
  • Please kill Legacy and DX already, although I imagine they all stay friends pre-Rumble, then the pre-Wrestlemania storylines build post-Rumble.
  • Kofi Kingston needs some help. Or a good manager.
  • Randy Orton needs a new angle, and with someone of his caliber. He builds some of the better storylines.
  • MVP is finally getting a program, for a title. Good show.
  • I swore Vince was going to "Stone Cold Stun" Bret at the end of the show.

In closing, WWE wins because TNA lost. And they lost badly. They have good talent, but bringing in these old heads, from Hogan to Hall, just makes it really look like WCW-lite, to me anyways. Fix up and keep changing, not recycling. Hogan + Bischoff does not = quality sports entertainment. I love the excitement - I found myself switching between two streams last night, catching both shows, but I watched way more RAW, just because TNA was a clusterfuck of a program.

Wrestleview has re-caps of iMPACT! and RAW, and this piece from The Bleacher Report echoes my thoughts on the TNA debacle from last night.

Rosenberg Documents Bret Hart's WWE Return

And as a bonus, check Rosenberg get booed at a ROH show:

Hitman Hart: Wrestling With Shadows

I figured, with Bret Hart returning to the WWE tonight, many of you needed to see where the animosity between Bret and Vince came from. Wrestling With Shadows is a classic wrestling documentary (excuse the German subtitles). Check it out in 8 parts after the jump...

Diva/Knockout of the Decade

The Diva/Knockout of the Decade is no other than my baby momma Trish Stratus. While Trish has not been a full-time wrestler since 2005, her credentials are still unmatched by any other active female wrestler (WWE Women's Championship 7 times, PWI Woman of the Year;2002, 2003, 2005, 2006, and acutally being named the Diva of the Decade in 2003. Congrats Ms. Stratus. The game needs you boo...

Honorable Mention: Lita, Awesome Kong, Michelle McCool, Mickie James

Wrestler of The Decade

Oh it's real.. It's damn real lol.. Sorry for leaving everyone hanging, my 28th birthday was this past Saturday. After much debate, I decided to chose Kurt Angle as the wrestler of the decade. I selected Kurt Angle because from 2000-2010, he has ran shit. Kurt ran shit in the WWE and one could say he's the main reason TNA is at the spot they are now. Kurt also has the "Ric Flair touch" evaluating young stars such as A.J. Styles, Matt Morgan, and Desmond Wolfe. Kurt Angle could really make anyone he's in the ring look good. Congrats Mr. Angle.

Honorable Mention: Triple H, Chris Jericho, John Cena

Tag Team of The Decade

Dudley Boyz/Team 3D - While I am not a huge fan of them, the Dudley Boyz have whopped ass in every wrestling organization they have fought in. Being 23 time World Tag Team Champions is a honorable feat. While Team 3D are still going strong, my fondest memories of them were during their original ECW days.

Honorable Mention: The Hardy Boyz, Rated RKO, JeriShow
